One DUSTY Birthday!

Image
Dust Cwaine is an icon around Vancouver. Having spent years nurturing the Drag Scene in East Van, and now pushing into the music scene and leaving one hell of a mark! From dabbling in making music, to having a full band and a full set list of amazing original tunes, to playing a sold-out birthday show and having the whole crowd sing along to their music.      With musical performances from Kylie V, Jody Glenham, Hazel and Dust's own band, as well as Drag performances from Acacia Gray, Pickle Spears, and Nora Vision. Topping it all off with Burlesque from Rainbow Glitz, and a speech from Shanda Leer (Dust's Drag Mom). It was a packed night full of magic and wonder.  Every performer brought their own unique quirky performances and it was such a fun mix of various genres and art types; one that I believe more shows should strive to model their nights after. Many had a duet moment with Dust, and it was so much fun to see them all tell stories (some more embarrass...

Popping Off With Pop Punk!

Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see Kites on Mars, Danger Box, The Interrogation and Rong on January 24th, at 648 Kingsway . Here's what Jade Weekes had to say about the venue and the fantastic performance that these bands put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪ There are a few underground venues around Vancouver, but one of my favorites is 648 Kingsway . It's perfectly hidden and you almost need a guide to find the entrance. But once you do, you're welcomed like family by the staff and get to see some of the best bands in Vancouver.

Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see Alien Weaponry, Municipal Waste, and Kerry King on January 20th, at The Commodore Ballroom . Here's what Danielle Ravenheart & Justin Waterhouse had to say about the venue and the incredible performance that these bands put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪   On Monday evening, we had the honour of reviewing and photographing the Kerry King concert at The Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC. At the venue, the line was quite long before doors even opened. When they opened, fans rushed to the barricade and within minutes, it was a full venue. When Justin went for a quick restroom break, all he could hear was how excited fans were for the bands to play. The first band to play was Alien Weaponry . The intro to their show was quite different from what we normally see; instead of everyone walking in at different times, the spotlight was on their drummer, who kept making faces at the crowd, which rile...

Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see You Me At Six, Enter Shikari, and Yours Truly on November 2nd, at The Commodore Ballroom . Here's what Danielle Ravenheart had to say about the venue and the incredible performance that these bands put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪   The show on November 2nd at The Commodore Ballroom was truly a night to remember. I had the pleasure to attend as a photographer, reviewer, and super fan of You Me At Six .       The opener for the night was a band called Yours Truly and they had an absolute powerhouse woman leading them. The energy started off high from the get-go, and the kind of performance they put on was one you didn’t want to miss a second of. They were a great choice to open for the next to band, You Me At Six .       This band is one of my personal favourites and they kicked off the night with one of their classics, Room To Breathe .   Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see Dead Fast, Hab!t, and Off By An Inch on November 9th, at Lana Lou's. Here's what Jason Yen & Chanel Brown had to say about the venue and the incredible performance that these bands put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪ Dead Fast came in hot with a fast tempo and a catchy beat, reminiscent of some of our favorite punk and emo bands of years past. With an intense energy in their songs, and a beat that throws us back to the old underground punk shows, they had the entire crowd moving and bouncing on their feet. The engagement in the crowd was impressive, and everybody appeared to be having a killer time. The whiny edge their vocals took on, felt like home, like the music of our youth shining through. We would highly recommend checking them out at a future show!    Hab!t showed off some incredible energy on stage, and it was well reflected in the crowd. The vocals owned this band, with...

Show Review - Put THAT In The Bible!

Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see Bible Girl, Doom Loops, and Kites on Mars on November 8th, at Lana Lou's. Here's what Jade Weekes had to say about the incredible performance that these bands put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪ Bible Girl had their first show at Lana Lou's last night. Their sound was a great mix of indie rock with a touch of shoegaze. Since it was their first show, it was expected to have a couple of flubs but they carried on like the seasoned musicians they are. Many dynamic changes made their set full of unexpected energy bursts, amidst their more low-key overall sound. Keep an eye out for their upcoming single!  ♪ ♫ ♪   Doom Loops brought some tasty piano licks, soaring synths, and catchy vocals; and that was only from ONE of their members! Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see Hippie Death Cult on November 2nd, at Green Auto Music . Here's what Danielle Ravenheart had to say about the venue and the incredible performance that HDC put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪      Although I got lost on the way to the show, walking into Green Auto Music felt like entering a tight knit, cozy community. The people there were quite friendly and one of the first things I noticed was their makeshift bar, which included a fridge stacked with an array of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic to choose from. The available merch for purpose was neatly put on display and the area was well-lit.      When the band came on stage, the crowd became immediately hyped. The front row to the stage was pretty packed, and not too long after, people were moving around, headbanging and dancing.
