We spoke with Introduce Wolves about their thoughts on the event!

Q: What sound can people expect to hear when they walk into your performance?

We’re an alternative rock band at heart, but with influences from lots of different sub genres such as metal, post-hardcore, post-rock, Brit-pop etc. We use a lot of fuzz pedals and things like that but always try to write catchy hooks to compliment the noise.

Q: What makes you stand out from the other bands in Vancouver?

The four of us live in Whistler and are all from different backgrounds, two Australians, one Scouser and an Ontarian. Our influences and experiences are all pretty unique and it comes across in the music. You can hear the impact the Beatles had on our song writing but can also hear the sound of Aussie prog rock bands such as Karnivool and Canadian punk rock bands such as Billy Talent.

Q: What's one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time?

I’d love it if people knew how much work goes into being in a band from a town that has practically no music scene. To make all this happen we’ve had to think outside the box. We’ve practiced in shipping containers, garages and warehouses. We recorded our first ep in our friend’s office and up until recently there were no music venues in Whistler that were suitable for a rock show. Resilience is a big part of our message.

Q: Which prize are you most excited for from the Sponsors?

We’re really excited about the possibility of recording a song with Matt Roach. We’ve recorded two EPs with his girlfriend Emily, who we love working with, at Raincity Recorders and he’s always come by to say hey. He even has some guest vocals on one of our recordings! We’re big fans of the work that he’s done with Sleep Circle and we’re certain he would help us bring out the best in our new music.

We spoke with Self/Care about their thoughts on the event!

Q: What sound can people expect to hear when they walk into your performance?

They can expect to hear pretty honest and earnest emo/pop-punk with a power pop influence. Our approach is pretty grip-it-and-rip-it, especially when it comes to live performances.

Q: What makes you stand out from the other bands in Vancouver?

The thing that makes us stand out in Vancouver is that we still cling to a mid-to-late 90s brand of alternative rock music that was revived and regressed in popularity in the 2010s. There definitely are some dynamite pop-punk and power-pop groups in this city, but the number seems to be dwindling

Q: What's one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time?

We try to make music that reminds us and encourages others to embrace joy whenever possible. Whenever we write or play we try to echo our happiest moments, and we hope that is transferred to the people we perform for.

Q: Where can people find you? Social media links?

Our website, selfcare.band hosts all of our links, music, and upcoming show dates. Alternatively, you can just follow us on Instagram at selfcare.band

Q: Which prize are you most excited for from the Sponsors?

The Video EPK package. I think it's a pretty underrated asset to have, especially when pitching promoters, bands, and venues to perform. Anything that could make us look more handsome is always welcomed.

Q: What sound can people expect to hear when they walk into your performance?

People can expect to hear a blend of pop and r&b when they walk into our performance.

Q: What makes you stand out from the other bands in Vancouver?

What makes Luvinya and The Retrolytes stand out from the other bands in Vancouver is our strong bond that is rooted in friendship, which lends itself to our overall performance and creative choices. My music has a unique blend of genres that are not easily accessible in Vancouver's live music scene, which is heavily dominated by indie-rock.

Q: What's one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time?

I wish I could tell a new fan listening to my music for the first time, that my intentions behind my songwriting is to spread joy, healing, and love.

We spoke with Hannah Harlacher about her thoughts on the event!

Q: What sound can people expect to hear when they walk into your performance?

As a group, our sound is a mix of mellow indie pop and folk rock. We've got really talented players who bring some groove and energy to my sweet folky singer-songwriter melodies.

Q: What makes you stand out from the other bands in Vancouver?

As a group with different backgrounds and music preferences, we approach writing/playing the songs in unique ways. Not a lot of bands are taking up space in the more subdued indie pop genre - and I think we do it well - in a way that feels familiar and new at the same time. We'll make you move in all the ways.

Q: What's one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time?

Thanks for listening! Everyone has different tastes, but it's really powerful to create a song that listeners can connect to, in any small shape or form. A lot of my songwriting is an attempt to work through or celebrate a feeling or an experience, and I hope that listeners can enjoy that ride as well, or take something new and positive away from it. And of course please follow me on streaming and socials to stay connected!

All of the prizes are incredible! The opportunity to have a song produced by a female producer with a background like Emily Ryan really resonates, as well as some tips and tricks from Kristina Lao! Would love to learn from women in the music industry.

What makes us stand out from other bands in Vancouver is not only our unique sound, but our energy on stage. Each song is crafted to be palatable and our energy on stage gives a feeling of our enjoyment in performing.

Q: Whats one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time?

One thing we would tell a new fan is that when you come out, do not be afraid to get up, dance, and participate. Audience enjoyment and interaction is as important as the quality of our performance.

Its always hard to put an exact genre on our music. Walking into our performance you can expect to hear our combination of influences. We like to create a cyclone of hard/alternative rock with some splashes of prog indie and even metal.

Q: What makes you stand out from the other bands in Vancouver?

Again I think it is our unique blend of genres. We also pull influences from all different decades of rock music as well. We have been grinding for almost 6 years to get our sound tight and ready for shows and we are finally ready to show the world what we got.

We spoke with Cheap Flavor about their thoughts on the event!

Q: What sound can people expect to hear when they walk into your performance?

As far as what words they're gonna hear, they should anticipate the political edge of rage against the machine mixed with the absolute clownery of the beastie boys. Also some yelling. In regards to the composition of our tunes, I'd reckon we come off as a bluesier Minutemen. Tons of danceable grooves with a roots rock ear for melody, a punk speed and aggression, mixed with some fun funk and alt rock influences to round us out..

Q: What makes you stand out from the other bands in Vancouver?

We're lucky as sin to be present for some incredible musical experimentation in the city. We might stand out as a bit more genre-blending than the average bear, and also I don't know of another band that covers 1930's swing songs in a way that makes ya wanna mosh. Or another band that'll cover a Labour anthem and a Nelly Furtado tune in the same set.

Q: Whats one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time?

Check out the groups and music that influenced us! Little Richard, Big Mama Thornton, The Flat Duo Jets, Pendulum, Benny Goodman, The Minutemen, etc!

People can expect to hear a rock setup complemented by fiddle and mandolin. The tunes are based on acoustic guitar, and built out to the other strings and drums! You'll hear lots of singing interspersed with improvisation.

Q: What makes you stand out from the other bands in Vancouver?

We always have fiddle and mandolin. There are at least 2, sometimes 4 fiddle players joining us on stage! Our songs are inspired by folk and blues music, but take big steps into uncharted territory.

Q: Whats one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time?
