is back with a fresh faced blog, and as always, we're ready to introduce you to some of the amazing local talent we have here, and to reacquaint you with some of your favourites. We have such an incredible music scene here in the GVA, and there are so many amazing artists just waiting for you to check them out. So, after an intensely hot and busy summer, some of our talented local artists found time to answer a few of our questions.

Check out what Papaya Given had to say!

♪ ♫ ♪

Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?

Papaya Given is juicy, and tart. We're a wild variety of genres spanning from funk, to contemporary, to prog-rock. We're always what you’re in the mood for, whichever mood you may be in.

Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?

We all believe that music is meant to be shared. One of the greatest successes we’ve all experienced independently from each other, is having someone approach us and say “you’ve made me want to learn the drums,” or “you’ve made me want to pick up the bass again.”

There is no better feeling than having someone truly receive the energy that we share, and have it inspire them to create their own flow state. Music is magical like that.

Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?

Anywhere there’s a good vibe haha!
Rob and Vic at Bully’s has been so welcoming to us as a newer project. It makes such a difference when you have a venue host that truly supports the artists.

Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?

I (meg) am a vinyl nerd. I love everything about pulling out this “in your face” piece of art and sitting down to a full album experience. Of course I appreciate the simplicity of being able to search up that one song that’s been stuck in your head, or to stumble upon new artists by letting an algorithm take control, but I've always loved trying to hear what the artist is telling you by sitting through and experiencing the whole story.

Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?

Well it used to be Fallen Stars (yes- a bit of brown nosing, haha) but a few that come to mind are Non LA, devours, OK Vancouver OK, Primp and Dusty Pines, just to name a few.

Q: What’s coming up next for your music?

We are in the last phases before we release our next single, to be titled “Flowstate.” We hope to have in your earholes sometime in Nov! Stay tuned!
