Support the Scene is back with a fresh faced blog, and as always, we're ready to introduce you to some of the amazing local talent we have here, and to reacquaint you with some of your favourites. We have such an incredible music scene here in the GVA, and there are so many amazing artists just waiting for you to check them out. So, after an intensely hot and busy summer, some of our talented local artists found time to answer a few of our questions.

Check out what The Wavebirds had to say!

♪ ♫ ♪

Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?

We're the Wavebirds! We have a high-energy ska-punk sound with music about video games and other geeky stuff. Some of our songs are about specific games, and others about nerdy experiences. Our first single High Score P.L.I. is about trying to beat a high score at the arcade.

Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?

We feel lucky to have had great experiences playing a variety of shows in Vancouver. We've played for the Vancouver Retro Gaming Expo, Vancouver Fringe Festival and New West Ska Fest!

Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?

We love Bully's Studios in New Westminster! The New West Ska Fest show last year had an incredible audience and the venue had a vibrant energy. We could feel the passion emanating from the crowd.

Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?

As someone who loves to make playlists for people, I prefer digital. But I also love the sound of a Vinyl record. Experience music however you want to! Let's bring HitClips back while we're at it.

Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?

Brehdren always puts on an amazing show, I love their catchy danceable music and the theatrical presence they bring to the stage.

Q: What’s coming up next for your music?

Our first single High Score P.L.I. is coming out on September 6th, and we're playing a show at Bully's Studios September 7th! We had fun with this song and hope to be releasing more songs in the new year!
