Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?

Aanthems is a bass and drums power duo made of actual brothers who yell practically the whole time. Punk thats technical enough to keep you on your toes with a heavy dose of noise rock. Ryan play bass totally wrong and Geof tries to sound like a train derailing, but in a cool way.

Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?

Just being able to continue making our racket feels like a big deal. We’ve been fortunate enough to play almost every venue in the city, open for some of our favourite bands on tour, and be a part of Vancouver’s amazing scene.

Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?

Tie between Green Auto and Red Gate they both have a beautiful DIY ethos and the people are top notch.

Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?

Vinyl is the coolest but arguably, nothing can touch digital. mp3s cracked open the whole industry and levelled the playing field. Anyone can make a record and release it worldwide now and that puts a lot of power in the hands of artists. CDs are the worst.

Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?

What a hard question! So many have come and gone. Dead End Drive-In never disappoints and I’m keeping close tabs on fresh faces like Luella and Weak Knees!

Q: What’s coming up next for your music?

More local shows, eventually we’ll finish some new music to put out. Just moving at a pace that works for us.
