The Fomites

Three men stand in front of a heavily graffiti'd wall. The center man has white face paint on and is wearing a white blood splattered blazer. The left most is dressed in more neon colors, and right is wearing all black.

Here's what they had to say...

Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?

My name is Jesse Death and we are The Fomites! We sing about horror movies, partying, pizza, and all things rad. We're head over heels for 90s punk rock and we dig horror in a major way, so our signature style is spooky skatepunk - our prime directive is to make sure it's fast and fun. Full stop.

Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?

There's been a lot of success in the last few years especially, but I'd say it has to be that we'll have played The Rickshaw twice this year - once in February opening for Hans Gruber and the Die Hards and Koffin Kats, and again on December 12 opening for CKY. We've been going to legendary shows there for about a decade so to not only be asked to play, but to be invited back, is a huge honor.

Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?

That's such a tough question since the city of Vancouver is constantly crushing them under their boot heel (RIP Black Lab, RIP Bullet Farm), and it has to be a four way tie. The Rickshaw is just such a huge, iconic stage that it's hard for that to not be the sole answer, but we play a ton of shows at more indie or underground venues that we support and love with all our hearts, so I have to give a shout out to our former home base of Bully's in New West, as well as Red Gate and Green Auto in East Van.

Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?

Although digital tunes have allowed us to spread like the plague across the entire world, vinyl is where our hearts are. We've released one 12" already and have another in the works, plus another yet to be announced vinyl project that is going to surprise some folks.

Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?

Asking all the tough questions today. I don't think we could pick just one so it's another tie. Kinda Cool Records wouldn't be here if it weren't for Steve and Shafer of You Big Idiot, which was one of the first bands we gravitated towards when we first moved here, seeking a scene. I don't think we'd have gained the same level of notoriety without Kinda Cool, so they're huge for us, but The Corps, Terminal City Rats and our Kinda Cool sibling band Die Job are not just amazingly talented bands, but some of our best friends in the entire world. Check them all out immediately if you haven't already.

Q: What’s coming up next for your music?

Lots! We have another full length that is mostly recorded already, being released on vinyl next year through Kinda Cool Records, but there are a couple secret projects that are ready for IMMINENT release! As in, as early as October 26th, and November 1st. We have a single coming out this weekend, and then a secret, unannounced project that we think people are going to lose their minds for. [Authors Note: At time of publishing, these have officially been released, and we highly recommend you check them out!] Stay tuned and stay spooky!
