Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?
Hi! My name is Ria Jade, I am a singer/songwriter/musician that grew up on my parents’ love for jazz and my own love for punk and rock and of course all the pop girlies. I feel like my music is a happy fruit salad of everything I love, from alternative to pop to rock to blues to indie.Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?
I am a competitive person so some of my favourite things have been being
able to participate in Best in Vancouver, being nominated as a youth
artist for FVMAs back in 2017 and being one of the winners of Permanent
Rain Press Musician of the Year are some of them. As a teenager I also
had the opportunity to travel and be a part of a showcase at Ottawa
Bluesfest and that was fun too!
Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?
My favourite venue to play so far has been the Biltmore Cabaret — I love the vibe and I’ve seen some artists I love there so it was cool to be able to play the same venue. (Most recently saw Slenderbodies, one of my favourite groups.)Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?
I have a soft spot for CDs. As a teen I would go to my local HMV and
just pick out cool album art from my favourite genres and that’s how I
found some of my favourite bands today. I used to also make mix CDs for
people I care about and give them to them for birthdays, Christmas, etc.
I love making Spotify playlists for people too but something about
making a mix CD and making your own album work for it for a loved one is
just so sentimental to me.
Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?
I haven’t been able to catch a show recently but I knew FKA Rayne
growing up and I love heavier rock music. It’s been so awesome to see
her grow up and really kick ass at what she does best. But there are
also so many other amazing local artists that I discover every day and
love to see, and I’m so grateful to have created friendships with so
many of them.
Q: What’s coming up next for your music?
I am currently working on releasing some new music in the next few months, everything is in the final bits in the studio. It’s been a long time coming for me to put music out for listening and I’m looking to do a ton of recording and content in the winter. Other than that, live shows are my true love so I’m always keeping that updated on my socials! Hope to see some new and familiar faces there. :)
