Slowicide is a girl punk-rock group from Vancouver, BC. |

Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?
We are Slowicide, an alternative rock project fronted by Filipina-Canadian singer/songwriter Raine Bongon. Heavily inspired by 90s riot grrrl punk rock and indie pop, Slowicide fuses screaming with melodicism and heavy with catchy.Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?
Definitely either playing Music Waste Festival or winning a Creative BC
grant to record with a professional producer! We've only been a band for
about a year and everything has happened so fast.
Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?
Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?
Vinyl, easy. But the best way to experience music, I think, is live at a show.
Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?
My favourite local band at the moment is PISS. Not even local—favourite band period. The first time I saw them live, I was absolutely blown away. They played screamy hardcore music, but the lyrics had me genuinely tearing up in the pit. I'd never had an experience like that at a hardcore show before and it was so special to find myself crying while moshing. Their music felt like an exorcism in the form of a poem. I love PISS!
Q: What’s coming up next for your music?
At the moment, we are slowing down with playing shows while writing and recording our first album takes priority. After a year of playing gigs almost monthly, this change of pace feels quite alien. But the music is what matters the most and I want to take the time and space to create something authentically Slowicide.
