Doom Cocoon
Here's what they had to say...♪ ♫ ♪
Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?
We are Doom Cocoon. A 3 piece garage rock band from East Vancouver. Doom
Cocoon is Andy Romans (Drums/Vocals), Warren Jones (Guitar/Vocals), and
George Spencer (Bass/Vocals). Our sound comes from a lot of different
influences but, if we had to narrow it down to something a little more
contained we would say we're in the realm of neo-psychedelic garage rock
with stoner elements.
Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?
The biggest successes we've had as a band would be getting put on
a Desert Daze bill with one of our favourite bands, Frankie and The
Witch Fingers, and going on a miniature three day tour with some amazing
friends/bands from BC. We could also say that being in a band with each
other would be a big success too. We're a bunch of like minded dudes
that are very open to each other's ideas. I'm not sure if that's hard to
find because this is a first for two out of the three members in the
band but nonetheless we're grateful to have each other as friends, band
members, and collaborators.
Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?
Right now, in the Vancouver music scene, there are so many good ones so it's hard to choose just one. To name a few we love playing Green Auto Body, shout out to Mike and his wonderful crew, The Cobalt, and last not but not least The Lido. The Lido has a special place in our hearts and it's the venue that makes us feel at home hence their theme of being Vancouver's "Psychedelic Dive Bar." We also love the Pearl but have only played there once (We'll be playing there again. Very soon!).Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?
I'd say it's a toss up between Vinyl and Digital. With Vinyl you get
that analog sound which stays true to the artist's
original recordings/vision. Another thing I love about listening to
vinyl is that it's an activity you are physically doing and something
you are paying attention to. When I listen to vinyl it's usually in the
morning when I'm eating breakfast and having coffee. It's a great way to
start a day and it's something I love to fully immerse myself in.
Digital might be the unpopular opinion but with it I've been able to
find so much new music. I love going down music rabbit holes with
websites like bandcamp and finding new music recommendations from
artists I already like. Digital being so readily available makes it
super easy to share music with friends/family and vice versa.
Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?
All of us like to be super involved in the local music scene so there isn't just one favourite local band. We love going to shows and supporting the scene so I'll name a few bands. Never Plenty, Heavy Trip, PISS, La Lune, Woolworm, Cryptds, and, Deaf Dogs. The list could go on and on but these are who come to mind.
Q: What’s coming up next for your music?
