Artist Spotlight - Hot Dyke Party

  Hey Music Fans! Are you ready to be introduced to some of the amazing local talent we have here, and to be reacquainted with some of your favourites? We have such an incredible music scene here in the GVA, and there are so many amazing artists just waiting for you to check them out.

As we roll into the increasingly darker months of the year, we hope you'll find a ray of sunshine amongst some of the artists we're going to introduce you too. Sit down, pour yourself a cup of your favorite hot beverage, and check out our next spotlighted artist:

Hot Dyke Party

        Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?

We are a 6 piece queer band blending indie/garage rock, singer songwriter pop, a dash of electric pop, and folk/country. Clearly, we’re open to all labels.

        Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?

Being able to play two shows during Vancouver Pride this past summer in our first year as a band was a huge moment of celebration for us. We’re so grateful for the support and recognition from this community.

        Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?

The Birdhouse! Woohoo!

        Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?

The accessibility of digital is unparalleled… we are really fun LIVE!

        Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?

SO many! We can’t choose just one: Houseguest, Leo De Johnson, Sapphire Haze, Lilbluebeluga, As and When, Amanda Sum, and Willow.

        Q: What’s coming up next for your music?



We’re releasing our first single, Jawbreaker, very soon! Following that we’re working on some new music, prepping for some prairie shows, and fundraising to record some more music!

New Music - Prepare For Hypothermia!

  Freeze The Fall has burst onto the scene in a whirlwind of riffs and hypnotic melodies. Despite their relative youthfulness, they caught the ever-watching eye of 604 Records . Together they worked hard to polish this already bright diamond into a new single titled " Hypothermia ". The track as well as accompanying music video will be released on Feb 12th . We had a chat with the band about the past, present, and future of Freeze The Fall.

Show Review - Put THAT In The Bible!

Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see Bible Girl, Doom Loops, and Kites on Mars on November 8th, at Lana Lou's. Here's what Jade Weekes had to say about the incredible performance that these bands put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪ Bible Girl had their first show at Lana Lou's last night. Their sound was a great mix of indie rock with a touch of shoegaze. Since it was their first show, it was expected to have a couple of flubs but they carried on like the seasoned musicians they are. Many dynamic changes made their set full of unexpected energy bursts, amidst their more low-key overall sound. Keep an eye out for their upcoming single!  ♪ ♫ ♪   Doom Loops brought some tasty piano licks, soaring synths, and catchy vocals; and that was only from ONE of their members!
