Here's what they had to say...♪ ♫ ♪
Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?
Hi, we're Pale North, and I'm the drummer and co-main-songwriter, Brie. The other members of the band are Amit and Slade. I guess to describe our sound, we like to say Dream Punk. We take a lot of influence from emo and shoegaze, and we attempt to sound as pretty and dreamlike as we are chaotic. Everything we do is basically us writing what we want to hear, and what we think would be fun to play. We just make the music we make.
Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?
Oh man, earlier in 2024 we opened for Weatherday, who is an artist we all love. Genuinely was such a cool experience to play in front of such a packed venue with such a passionate and excitable crowd. The lead of the band Sputnik, is also such a sweetheart. Wonderful memory all around. We are so very lucky to have gotten that opportunity, just pure luck.
Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?
I guess it's gotta be Red Gate right? We play there so much, the sound people all know us (and make us sound great), and it always gets good turnouts. I always know a show is gonna go smooth when it's there. Also I'd like to give a shoutout to the outdoor section of Green Auto. We played their once as the sun was setting and it made for such a gorgeous and fitting backdrop. Like when I'm writing about Vancouver, that's the very image that's in my head. Vaguely lit-up mountains, orange hue above, cranes and ocean.Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?
I don't know. It's like, I love the novelty of vinyl, because it's cool to have such a large and tangible, physical piece of art. But it's expensive as hell, and very cumbersome. I understand vinyl purists but nowadays I'm fine with just a CD I can rip to my computer and put away with dozens of others in a small box. Obviously digital is important, that's the way pretty much everyone listens to music. But I will forever miss the feeling of purchasing something physical and knowing that it's Actually and Really mine. I kind of miss the art of 'collecting' rather than 'accumulating' but I guess that's just weighing one form of consumerism against another. Ignoring everything I've said up there, the only physical format we've ever released anything on before was Cassette, and I really love knowing I'm holding something I created in my hands. Special feeling, that.
Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?
Hope Slide is the best band in Vancouver honestly. All very great people, and they've been fantastic every time I've seen them. Genuinely no local band makes me feel so alive, like present in the moment like them. A band that grounds you and makes you feel real feelings. Great stuff obviously. Going to give some other shoutouts to Jisei, Drive Your Plow, Beebomb, Numb Dame, and The Hausplants. Love them all.
Q: What’s coming up next for your music?
