Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?

We are Neon Society, a high energy fast paced and melodic anime rock band based here in Vancouver, Canada. Our mission is to bring the much loved anime music of Japan to North America. We hope everyone will either be dancing or moshing to our tunes.

Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?

As a Band, our latest release “Live and Learn” has just gone over 20K views on YouTube and is growing everyday. We really appreciate the positive feedback as it is entirely self produced. It is our tribute to a much loved anime band Crush 40,  @johnnygiorli and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?

Lols we actually haven’t played it yet but locally, one day we would love to play the Electric ballroom. Then we know we’ve made it lols. The venues we have played, we have had a lot of fun nights at the Roxy either playing or watching other local bands. Those guys really do support the local music scene which is good to see.

Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?

You know, it's really hard now for a local/underground to establish themselves because there are less revenue streams available to them. How we consume music has been a big factor to that. It’s wonderful to have access through streaming but as a band we hope it goes back to audio CD’s.

Not only are they better quality but more of the money from those sales go to the artists so it would be good for everyone if that could happen. We don’t consume music the way we used to, which is a shame for all artists around the world. For us, there is something quite poetic about holding a physical tangible record. Maybe it's nostalgia, we are 90's kids after all lols.

Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?

Wow, there are too many to mention but locally we just saw @brasscamel and they always put on a great show. Then there is @generousthieves, a great reggae band making strides over in Japan.@Nadineweldon_ has some great acoustic songs and if you like metal our friends @hyperiametal are dope. Then there is @squaremusic.ca for more technical prog and @etecentera @cayonriders for some good old Blues. @chasethebear are also great and remind us of some of the early 2000's UK bands like Razorlight and the Kooks. Vancouver has a great wealth of music talent, the list goes on and on.

Q: What’s coming up next for your music?

We are currently organising a charity fundraiser @passionperformance Vancouver to be held on the 22nd of March. The money from is for the Dance, Drama and Music Foundation and will go towards the development of the creative arts here in Vancouver. We are featuring all local original bands including @Chasethebear who are gonna be headlining this show. We are also featuring @catmadden and @Nadine weldon. We are really excited about playing with all of them and plan to do more shows like this as we feel it is a great cause.

In the Studio, we are currently mixing and mastering our new original release YYLMP. To be released in February. Then we are continuing to record anime covers. The next of which will be Pokemon!!! We will be releasing music every couple of months from there onwards and are planning a series of shows throughout Canada for the summer.
