Vancouver's Drag Superstar Showdown! Week 4 Recap
Frequently the music scene and the arts scene overlap, and one of the more spectacular examples of that are drag performances. This year TFD Presents is back to host the 12th year of Vancouver's Next Drag Superstar! Support the Scene was given the opportunity to come out and shoot the show on Feb 20th, and we decided to give you a recap of what went down during the semi final's performances.

This week they were quick to proceed into the show, rolling immediately into everyone's favorite competition: the lip sync battles. This week they were challenged to 1v1 lip sync battles to determine who would proceed to the finals, and who would be eliminated.
Up first we have Michelangela vs. Clem, lip syncing to everyone's favorite, Don't Stop Me Now by Queen. Michelangela was stunning in a dark blue sequined bodysuit, with gorgeous plumes of bright orange feathers coming off various points. Clem also looked stunning in a light blue rhinestoned number, with the most adorable rouched skirt. Michelangela came out on top of this round, and our stars were whisked off stage to allow for the next performance. The judges were delighted, with very few criticisms.
Up next we had Queen Kong vs. Carrie Oki Doki, performing to Hold On by Wilson Phillips. Coming out in a full bodysuit, Queen Kong stood out with her lime green details and feathered accents. Carrie was absolutely delightful as always, in a beautiful silken dress with large rouched accents on her elbows. The performance was a fierce one, with both ladies putting on an incredible performance, before Queen Kong came out on top. As Tommy said, and the crowd whole-heartedly agreed, we were being "overwhelmed by awesome".
The next lip sync battle was between the incredible Addi Pose and Mikki Wikki, performing a delightful lip sync of The Lady Is a Tramp, by Shirley Bassey. A black and gold accented bodysuit with a long panel in the front and back was worn by Addi, and an adorable metallic pink bikini top and mini skirt were worn by Mikki. The crowd absolutely ate up this performance, with Addi Pose winning the battle.
Finally, last, but certainly not least, we had Sis Gender and Nara performing Hold It Against Me by everyone's favorite "It Girl" Britney Spears. Sis wore one of my personal favorite outfits of the night; a black bodysuit, neck to foot, with hot pink lines meant to emphasize and trick the eye into different curves. A simple outfit, but effective.. Nara matched the pink in a hot pink bodysuit and matching knee high heels. Sis came out on top of this performance, with incredible reception from the crowd.
As the initial round of lip syncs came to an end, they lined up the next batch, where they would narrow down the finalists with another round of 1v1 lip syncs.
Round 1 was a lip synch of Poison, with Michelangela and Queen Kong competing against one another first. The performance was incredible, and the outfits paired beautifully on stage, with Queen Kongs green feathers and Michelangela's orange. As Tommy said, "Are you fucking kidding me?!" Comments were made by the judges, with a reference to the Grinch and Lorax, and comments on the battle of the ponytails. Queen Kong was ultimately decided as winner of this challenge.
In Round 2, it was Addi Pose and Sis Gender, lip syncing to Ring Them Bells, by the incredible Liza Minnelli. These ladies killed this performance, the song seemingly made for them to lip sync too. In the end, Sis Gender came out on top.
During Round 3, we saw Sis Gender go up once again, this time against Queen Kong, this time performing Diva by Beyonce. It was a tight battle and an incredible performance, with Queen Kong coming out on top.
But then the judges surprised us with an unexpected lip sync battle against a surprise competitor: none other than this weeks guest judge, Nearah Nuff. This was an incredible battle, and everyone was delighted to see the guest judge perform. Sis was deemed winner of this battle, allowing her to move forward.
Finally, Tommy invited Michelangela and Addi Pose back to the stage one last time, should they choose to accept it. They did, of course, and came up on stage to perform Run by Leona Lewis. After a heart pounding performance, Addi came out on top.
Finally, the audience was asked to vote, being given only 5 minutes to get their vote in. The top two of those who lost, would compete one last time, to determine who moved forward. As voting came to a close, it was announced that Mikki Wikki and Nara would be going up one final time, performing Mother's Daughter by Miley Cyrus. Michelangela was given some extra grace, and moved forward due to sheer number of performances that night. Meanwhile, Mikki and Nara performed, with Mikki coming out on top.
