Vancouver's Next Drag Superstar - Burna

The hunt is on for Vancouver's Next Drag Superstar! We managed to chat with a few of this week's revealed contestants. Come out Feb 6th to Celebrities Nightclub, as well as for the next few weeks, to see who makes it to the finals.

Introducing:

Burna

        1. How would you describe your drag to someone who’s never seen you before?


My drag is very trashy, punk, trailer park, party girl with a side of bimbo. Non-chalant, un-serious, good time gal!

         2. What’s your go-to song to perform if you were trapped on a desert island and had to lip sync for your life to escape?


I do Jessica Simpsons "I Wanna Love you Forever" a lot, and I've done "Black Velvet" often, 'cause rolling around the floor is fun, haha. I'm kind of a slow, sexy song kinda gal, haha.

        3. Which guest judge are you most looking forward to performing in front of?
Probably Kendal, 'cause we knew each other before either of us started doing drag. She's very professional, and I feel like her feedback would be constructive and positive.

        4. What do you think separates you from other Drag performers in Vancouver?
What separates me from other performers is that I'm mainly an East Van girl. I love doing drag and exploring my feminine side and expanding the art of it. What makes me different though, is that I don't often take drag and performance super seriously. Perhaps I should more, but I really just love to do it for fun and interacting. 🙂 Also, there's no other Queen of The Trailer Park in Van, lol. I'm also the only one who does balloon boobs, haha. I used balloons as a kid when secretly dressing up in my mom's clothes, so it's kind of an homage to my childhood. Now I can cross dress on stages, instead of alone, in secret, in the bathroom.

        5. What’s the message you want to send to our readers to get them to come cheer you on?
Come cheer me on 'cause I'm here for a good time! I'm here to be completely ridiculous. To have fun, and to bring to gags and surprises! You never really know what's gonna happen when Burna is on stage 😉.

New Music - Prepare For Hypothermia!

  Freeze The Fall has burst onto the scene in a whirlwind of riffs and hypnotic melodies. Despite their relative youthfulness, they caught the ever-watching eye of 604 Records . Together they worked hard to polish this already bright diamond into a new single titled " Hypothermia ". The track as well as accompanying music video will be released on Feb 12th . Show Review - Put THAT In The Bible!

Support the Scene had the opportunity to send one of our incredibly talented photographers to see Bible Girl, Doom Loops, and Kites on Mars on November 8th, at Lana Lou's. Here's what Jade Weekes had to say about the incredible performance that these bands put on.  ♪ ♫ ♪ Bible Girl had their first show at Lana Lou's last night. Their sound was a great mix of indie rock with a touch of shoegaze. Since it was their first show, it was expected to have a couple of flubs but they carried on like the seasoned musicians they are. Many dynamic changes made their set full of unexpected energy bursts, amidst their more low-key overall sound. Keep an eye out for their upcoming single!  ♪ ♫ ♪   Doom Loops brought some tasty piano licks, soaring synths, and catchy vocals; and that was only from ONE of their members!
