Wacken Metal Battle - Burnt Lung

Battle of the Bands comes in many varieties, some offer you some prize money, and some offer you opportunities to work with professionals in their field. But rarely does a competition offer you a chance at something so game-changing as the Wacken Battle Of The Bands. Wacken Open Air is a heavy metal music festival held annually since 1989 in Germany. And if you win the Canadian Wacken Metal Battle, you can play that massive festival.

This year Vancouver has some amazing bands fighting for their spot to represent our city in the Wacken Metal Battle. I'll be having a quick chat with each band about their thoughts going into this show on SATURDAY, March 1st! Don't Miss it!

1. For those who haven’t heard you yet? How would YOU describe your music?

Our music is angry and psychedelic: evil yet inspiring, groovy doom metal with some grungy Sabbath influence.

2. When did you first hear about the Wacken Festival? What drew you too it?

We all heard about Wacken many years ago. It has always been regarded as the biggest metal festival in the world, so it’s definitely on our bucket list.

3. Who of your competitors are you most stoked to share the stage with?

We are always excited to share the stage with bands we haven’t played with yet. We have done a couple shows with Utility Provider in the past and have heard some good things about Deathbound as well as Gregorious. We would also love to perform alongside Yegg and Iron Kingdom.

4. What makes your band stand out compared to the other bands?

I feel like we have a somewhat unique sound with a diverse range of influences. Our hard-hitting riffs, infused with a shimmer of psychedelia, combined with aggressive and intense vocals, create a distinct vibe that allows us to comfortably fit alongside a variety of different bands on a lineup.

5. If you had free reign and unlimited money, what would your stage at Wacken look like?

Giant 20-foot bongs that shoot smoke into the sky? Psychedelic lasers, lights, and visuals that would transport the entire crowd to another dimension? More pyrotechnics than a Rammstein concert? That would all be cool as hell but at the end of the day, all we need is the three of us and our instruments, a couple of amps, and some people who want to hear us play.
