Wacken Metal Battle - DeathBound
Battle of the Bands comes in many varieties, some offer you some prize money, and some offer you opportunities to work with professionals in their field. But rarely does a competition offer you a chance at something so game-changing as the Wacken Battle Of The Bands. Wacken Open Air is a heavy metal music festival held annually since 1989 in Germany. And if you win the Canadian Wacken Metal Battle, you can play that massive festival.
This year Vancouver has some amazing bands fighting for their spot to represent our city in the Wacken Metal Battle. I'll be having a quick chat with each band about their thoughts going into this show on SATURDAY, March 1st! Don't Miss it!
1. For those who haven’t heard you yet? How would YOU describe your music?
Full on heavy, groove based galloping riffs backed up by fast paced drumming and breakdowns that hit real hard. All topped off with some savage screaming vocals.
2. When did you first hear about the Wacken Festival? What drew you too it?
We have heard about the legendary Waken festival for years but the epic footage of Parkway Drive headlining in 2019 really showed us just how special this festival is. What draws us to this festival is its sheer size and scale and the legendary names in metal that have been a part of it over the years.
3. Who of your competitors are you most stoked to share the stage with?
For us, being huge fans and heavily influenced by thrash metal, Nokturna really excite us. We’re really looking forward to seeing what they bring in a live capacity. As we are with all the bands in the heat, it’s going to be fun to share the stage with them, they all bring something different.
4. What makes your band stand out compared to the other bands?
We believe DeathBound have a unique sound in the sense that we really like to mix it up in the songwriting process. We’re not believers in delivering the same drum beat or riff over and over again and try our best not to be too one dimensional.
We like to go full speed and play fast but will always find a way to open up the song which then allows us to bring something extremely fun, heavy and different into the mix.
5. If you had free reign and unlimited money, what would your stage at Wacken look like?
One gigantic backlit DeathBound neon sign as a backdrop, a giant ‘Eddie’ like grim reaper stalking the stage coupled with a serious amount of pyrotechnics similar to a Parkway Drive or Rammstein show!
