Wacken Metal Battle - Nokturna

Battle of the Bands comes in many varieties, some offer you some prize money, and some offer you opportunities to work with professionals in their field. But rarely does a competition offer you a chance at something so game-changing as the Wacken Battle Of The Bands. Wacken Open Air is a heavy metal music festival held annually since 1989 in Germany. And if you win the Canadian Wacken Metal Battle, you can play that massive festival.

This year Vancouver has some amazing bands fighting for their spot to represent our city in the Wacken Metal Battle. I'll be having a quick chat with each band about their thoughts going into this show on SATURDAY, March 1st! Don't Miss it!

1. For those who haven’t heard you yet? How would YOU describe your music?

If I had to describe our music in its simplest form, it’s really classic thrash with modern flairs and some progressive influence. All we really are, are the sum of our influences, Gojira, Metallica, Sleep Token etc… and it’s music that combines all of that into a heavy thrash record.

2. When did you first hear about the Wacken Festival? What drew you to it?

We first heard about Wacken years and years ago. I’ve personally known about it since I was quite young since I’ve been into the rock and metal scene my whole life. And I heard about the metal battle shortly before the Canadian application deadline, and the rest is history.

3. Who of your competitors are you most stoked to share the stage with?

Honestly, all of them, they’re all amazing bands who are gonna absolutely kill it. But if we had to pick one, we’ve been following Deathbound the longest and they’re gonna rip that stage up..

4. What makes your band stand out compared to the other bands?

I think we stand out, not only cause we’re younger, but also because we treat every show like it’s our last. It’s 100% all of the time and we live to give a good show.

5. If you had free reign and unlimited money, what would your stage at Wacken look like?

For sure we’d be drawing from our album’s aesthetic, destroyed concrete walls, barbed wire, graffiti. We really drew from our surroundings when creating this record, and specifically the amazing street art in and around the Vancouver area. We’d love to honour that with our stage design.
