Q: For those who don’t know you, can you please introduce yourself and describe your sound?
I’m Elyssa, also known as Acoustic Eel! I write introspective songs, sing, and play classical guitar. I might describe my sound as a blend of 1970’s and contemporary folk singer-songwriter vibes with a tiny hint of classical influence.Q: What’s one of the biggest successes you’ve had as a musician?
Some big highlights have included: finding/building an amazing community; moving past my debilitating stage fright; collaborating with other musicians; sharing my music with an audience; and releasing my first single, Ghost (in my phone), on streaming platforms -- shout out to Atlin Morgan of Ask the Wind for all her help with recording and production!Q: What’s your favourite venue to play?
Hmm, I struggle with favourites. I really enjoy the vibes, stage setup and sound at the Anza Club. I'm also a big fan of Trees, East Café, Pleasant Mountain Music (Lam Jam), Bez Arts Hub and Container Brewing.Q: What do you think was the best Medium for music to be on? (Vinyl, Tape, CD, Digital)?
I think live music is pretty magical! Otherwise, I don’t have a super strong preference, as long as the sound quality is good and the volume is at a comfortable level for my sensitive human ears.Q: Who is your favourite local band to see perform around town?
I can’t choose a favourite band! This town is full of incredible musicians, each with their own magic. Most recently, I’ve really enjoyed performances from Ask the Wind, Autopilot, Jodi Sharl/Goat String Orchestra, Nippleback, and My Sister Maria, among others.Q: What’s coming up next for your music?
